Least surprising news ever: Microsoft to buy Groove Networks

Not claiming any powers of precognition or anything, this news was pretty obvious for about the last year. I realy think this will be a great step for both companies – and might it also indicate a bigger investment from Microsoft in ‘Social Software’? I’d watch this blog for more details on what this incredibly smart guy plans to do next…as CTO of Microsoft

And in other news, Microsoft announces that they will buy ANY small organization that develops products targetted exclusively to the Windows platform...

Well...I should say that this wasn't a surprise for a few reasons...some I can mention and some I can't..partly it's product positioning - look at how Sharepoint and Live Communications server. The features that these products were missing seemed to be a nice overlap with Groove. Second was the fact that Microsoft was a HUGE investor in Groove already (not a position MS usually stays in for long without making a move - e.g., Navision)...
Want to get bought, develop a product which fits a niche which MS is butting up against but isn't quite in yet...
